Kimono

          Kimono is traditional dress from Japan. It takes its name from the verb kiru "to wear" and mono thing.  This term was coined during Japan's first era of the modernization the- Meiji Period (1868-1912). When West clothing travelled to Asia, Japanese people started to worry about their own culture and fashion. Japan isolated itself with feeling of self-consciousness. Kimono is the T-shaped garment, it can be worn by men and women for weddings or funerals, at festivals or even for relaxing at home. At first, kimono was plain, silk garment worn as the first layer of volumionous robes- in Heian Period(794-1185) of as an outwear for lower classes. At this time, kimono was colorful- a lot of people wore clothing with delicate tie-dyeing, called tsujigahana . Later in the Kanbun Period(1661-1673) patterns evolved. Modeling

  Nowadays, modeling is a job. We see they in our everyday life- on billboards, ads or posters. Charles Frederick Worth was the first designer who use model to show his new project. His wife, Marie, was the one of the first model. Lady Duff Gordon was the first person who did a whole show full of mannequin- models that struck dramatic poses and never spoke.  Fashion illustrations in magazines were posed by actresses. In the 1960s, catwalk models and photomodel separated, creating the independent career path. At the same time, catwalk models can dance and act on the runway- it was a big development.  But they ere poorly paid- it wasn't affortable job, until 1990s, when famous supermodels became new celbrities. Youth followed their favourite models, fashion became more available and a lot of people were into this. Today, becaming model is difficult but not impossible. Hippie Style

          Stereotype about hippies is so much popular, that we  don't think how they look like 50 years ago, or even 70. It is more quaint than you think it would be. Hippis is the subculture not only about clothes- they protest againt capitalist society, which imposed strict etiquette about fashion. Hippis tried to break those rules, by wearing colorful and baggy garments. They prefer comfort over look- so fabrics were really different from each other. Everyone wear their favourite kind. Hippies showed their opinion about very important thing and make some ideas their own.  It's interesting that hippie fashion isn't steady- there were phases, when this style evolved. For example, phase in the 1960s- miniskirts and pantsuits. And "anti-fashion". Hippies wore white t-shirts and jeans, sometimes work shirt.
