Ancient world: History of dress

In the Ancient world, "fashion" didn't exist. There were only cultures- and clothes were a part of it. When one culture dissapeared, other came into its place.

There were two characteristical ways of making dresses: one cloth was draped- fabric was wrapped around the body without sewing. Other dresses were tailored- the fabric was cut into pieces and sewing together.

Two different dresses were worn in two different places. Drapped robes wore people that lived near Medditerranean Sea, because clothes were airy and light. Also material matched the concept of delicate and smooth robe. Tailored dresses were worn by people from Mesopotamia- they wore short, animal skin, so material had to be sewn.

Dresses were not assigned to gender. Tunics were worn by women and men, as an outwear.

The most common shoes in the ancient times were sandals. It was the easiest thing to do and the most affortable.
