History of Children's Clothing Part 2

         Before the 1920s, pants were connected with boys' fashion. Society required weraing long or medium-lenght skirts or dresses from girls. Especially, for a party, mass in church or simple day in school.         By the 1940s, toddler girls wore trousers in home and sometimes for casual events. But people still wanted to see girls in feminine clothes, so not every girl was brave enought to normalize wearing masculine clothes in public.      Finally, in the 1970s, dresscode evolved. Girls started wear trousers to school, standarized it. Althought, adolescent girls didn't show their independence throught wearing different clothes. Instead, they were similar garmets to their parents.they accepted current fashionstyle.     Not always, teenagers were creating cliques and subcultures.       For decades, children's clothing evolved in a very interesting way. From infancy to adolescence, people act different, so looks are changing too. Althought, clothes don't change only because of that. It also showed a children's position in society and development in childcare. Actually children wore clothing without gender division. In the beginning,of 20th century, small boys and girls wore a tunic or a robe.  Babies wore diapers with strong stabilization, in 17th and 18th centuries, beacuse people believed that in early life arms and legs should be protected, so in future it won't be bent or misshapen. Later, it changed, so babies could move in a normal way. When little boy started wearing pants instead of tunic it was called "breeching".         ORIENTALISM IN FASHION Asian culture is source of inspiration for fashion designers since 17th century. The influence of this continet on Europe was vast! It begun beacuse the import of things from Asian culture increased, like Chinese ceramics or tulips from Turkey to Holland. Also brewed leaf, known as a tea, was unfamiliar to Europe. There were new materials, patterns and accesories in fashion that many people started to use. It all came to our continent from 17th to 19th centuries. Orientalism has its beginnig in Gothic and Barrocco. European style was mixed with new, Japanese, for example, old-fashioned robes were worn with oriental floral motifs (the symbolic flower was chrysanthemum). A lot of women wore  column dresses made of kashmir, famous material from India. Many costumes for plays in theaters, ballets was inspired by fashion in Arabia and Persia.
